Most rappers wouldn’t get away with putting out a song called ‘Black Jesus’ on Easter. Most rappers wouldn’t be able to change their name from the ultra-recognizable Mos Def to ‘Yasiin Bey’ in the middle of a successful career without big consequences. Most rappers wouldn’t get away with pursuing an acting career that puts constraints on their music production. Most rappers would get laughed out of the room for borrowing rhymes from fictional high school football teams. Of course, most rappers aren’t Mos Def and Mos Def isn’t like most rappers. After years of innovation, he’s earned a free pass to do whatever the hell he wants and it’s hard to argue with the results on this one. Stream his Mannie Fresh produced single below.
